Wondering Why Buffy has been such a hit? Should you be watching Joss Whedon’s vampire slayer on Netflix? What about those future seasons, you know, the ones in Dark Horse comics.
Or Maybe you are a Buffy Fan from way back. Well here’s your chance to get caught up so that you are prepared for Season 10 of Buffy and it’s sister comic: Angel and Faith. This is part 7 of “Buffy The Story So Far” where I’ll get you caught up on what happens in Season 7.
The last cinematic season of Buffy begins here. Dawn is a sophomore at the new Sunnydale High, and there are problems afoot again. Not only that, but our old pal Spke went off to recover his soul. After much torture and trials, Spike gets his soul back. Then he goes insane because he can no longer deal with his past. So he is now the crazy guy living in the school basement.
We discover that there are many “Potential Slayers” around the world. THey are ready to become “Actual Slayers” if the one true slayer ever gets killed, but right now they are just vulnerable young woman.
Well, the First (the big bad from season three) was able to start causing problems because of the whole Buffy coming back from the dead thing. So he is back and has the help of Caleb, played by Nathan Fillion. Who is really, really evil.
Buffy gets a job at Sunnydale High and we are introduced to Principal Robin Wood, played by D.B. Woodside. He is secretly a vampire hunter because a certain blond haired bad boy vampire killed his slayer mother when he was just a kid.
Giles comes back because the entire Watcher council is killed by Caleb. Willow meets a potential slayer named Kennedy and they hit it off. Spike gets taken over by the first and causes lots of problems. Giles and Willow gather up all the potential slayers that they can find, in the hopes of stopping the First from destroying the entire slayer line.
Faith returns to help fight The First and everyone starts training the potential slayers to defend themselves. Eventually, they go on the offensive and attack Caleb, losing several slayers and one of Xander’s eyes in the process.
The slayers rebel, lead by Faith. Xander takes Dawn out of Sunnydale to protect her. Spike learns of a special slayer weapon called the scythe. She goes after it while Faith and the potentials decide to attack the bad guys again. Too bad there is a bomb that kills a lot of them. Buffy saves everyone who is left.
The Hellmouth is finally building towards the end though. Humans and supernatural beings start to flee Sunnydale. Buffy and her friends stay to try and stop The First. Dawn returns to help, and Angel shows up with a special amulet that Buffy gives to Spike.
Caleb is cut in twain by Buffy and her new Scythe, but there are just too many super-vamps (Turok-Han) coming out of the hellmouth and the end is near. Willow uses a spell that turns all of the potential slayers into real slayers. Anya is killed by the vamps, horribly.
Spike uses the amulet, and it destroys all of the super-vamps, along with Spike himself. It turns out that Spike was the legendary vampire with a soul that saves the world, it wasn’t Angel at all. Buffy tells Spike that she loves him before he dies.
The Hellmouth collapses and everyone runs. In the end, the gang is left standing on the outskirts of Sunnydale, in front of a huge crater that used to be the town.
It’s time to move on to the Dark Horse continuation! Come back tomorrow for Season 8.
