Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander
Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander is Frank Miller’s comics prequel to his epic 300, the inspiration for the motion picture directed by Zach Snyder. Alex Sinclair (Dark Knight III: The Master Race) joins Frank as colorist on the highly anticipated series. Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander will launch in 2018. Xerxes rose to power in fifth-century-B.C. Persia and became known as “The King of Kings,” eventually raising and leading a massive army intent on ruthlessly destroying the hated Greeks who killed his father. Xerxes seeks nothing less than to become a god himself—and achieves his wish!
In early 2017, Dark Horse announced Berger Books, a new line of creator-owned comic books and graphic novels, from Karen Berger, the legendary, award-winning comic book editor and founder of DC Comics’ influential imprint Vertigo. Dark Horse is pleased to reveal the new imprint’s premiere titles. Berger Books will release four new comics series, each to be later collected as a graphic novel: Hungry Ghosts by Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose; Incognegro: Renaissance by Mat Johnson and Warren Pleece; Mata Hari by Emma Beeby and Ariela Kristantina, and The Seeds by Ann Nocenti and David Aja. Berger Books will also publish a tenth-anniversary edition of Incognegro: A Graphic Mystery by Mat Johnson and Warren Pleece and The Originals: The Essential Edition by Dave Gibbons.
The Umbrella Academy on Netflix
Dark Horse, Netflix and Universal Cable Productions will bring the ten-episode series The Umbrella Academy to members worldwide in 2018. Based on the popular, Eisner award-winning comics and graphic novels created and written by Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance) and illustrated by Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy is a live action series that follows the estranged members of a dysfunctional family of superheroes (The Umbrella Academy) — The Monocle, Spaceboy, The Kraken, The Rumor, The Séance, Number Five, The Horror, and The White Violin — as they work together to solve their father’s mysterious death while coming apart at the seams due to their divergent personalities and abilities. Published by Dark Horse Comics, the comic series garnered much praise from fans and critics alike for its alternate and twisted take on the superhero genre.

From Baba Yaga and Hecate, to the Black Flame and the Queen of Blood, Mike Mignola’s legendary Hellboy and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense have battled some of the most dangerous and despicable demons and villains in all of comics. Dark Horse Comics is revealing three new titles for the strange, shared Mignolaverse of comic books and graphic novels comprised of Hellboy & the BPRD, Abe Sapien, BPRD, Lobster Johnson and Witchfinder, with all three new titles focusing on villains. With stories by Eisner award-winning artist Adam Hughes—who is illustrating his first ever Mignolaverse story, iZOMBIEco-creator Chris Roberson, and acclaimed Mignolaverse artists Christopher Mitten and Ben Stenbeck, the three new titles will explore the secret origins of two classic villains, Koshchei the Deathless and Rasputin, and introduce the Krampus into Hellboy’s odd world of fantasy and folklore.
Tomb Raider: Survivor’s Crusade
The trials and tribulations of Lara Croft continue! Dark Horse and Crystal Dynamics are excited to announce the next installment in the Tomb Raider comic universe. Tomb Raider: Survivor’s Crusade boasts a whole new creative team with Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly (Joyride, Hacktivist) composing Lara’s new adventure, while Ashley A. Woods (Ladycastle, Niobe) brings Lara Croft to life, and colorist legend Michael Atiyeh (Conan the Slayer, Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens) makes the art pop! Hannah Fisher (Cosmoknights) has created the gorgeous cover for the first issue.
Sherlock Frankenstein & The Legion of Evil
Writer Jeff Lemire and artist Dean Ormston have captivated readers and critics alike with their “sad, dark, and brilliant”* creator owned superhero sagaBlack Hammer, which follows the forgotten champions of Spiral City long after the age of heroes has passed. This fall, Dark Horse Comics will expand the universe of the Black Hammer with Sherlock Frankenstein & The Legion of Evil, written by Lemire and illustrated by artist David Rubín, for the first of several high profile mini-series featuring different artists. While the main, Eisner-nominated Black Hammer series focuses on the heroes of Spiral City—Abraham Slam, Golden Gail, Colonel Weird, Madame Dragonfly, and Barbalien—Sherlock Frankenstein & The Legion of Evil reveals the secret origins of the Black Hammer’s greatest villains.
Dark Horse Comics will publish the debut issue of the four issue Sherlock Frankenstein & The Legion of Evil mini-series on October 18.
Trollhunters: The Secret History of Trollkind
From Dark Horse Comics, Guillermo del Toro, and Universal Brand Development comes a graphic novel with further adventures for DreamWorks Animation Television’s Trollhunters’ teenage hero, Jim Lake, Jr., in Trollhunters: The Secret History of Trollkind. Trollhunters executive producer and writer Marc Guggenheim and How to Train Your Dragon graphic novel writer Richard Hamilton work alongside Trollhunters creator and executive producer Guillermo del Toro to co-write this companion tale to the Emmy-winning Netflix series! Timothy Green II (Avenger’s Academy, Justice League: 3001) provides his artistic skills to Trollhunters: The Secret History of Trollkindwith Wes Dzioba (Hack/Slash: The Series, Serenity: No Power in the ‘Verse) bringing the art to life with his gorgeous colors. The amazing cover is by Bill Sienkiewicz (New Mutants, Elektra: Assassin).

Universal Cable Productions and Dark Horse Entertainment have renewed their first-look deal to continue developing and producing scripted programming from the distinguished publisher’s comic book library, as well as new original material. UCP continues to roll out its impressive genre development slate with Dark Horse Entertainment’s “Mind MGMT,” from Matt Kindt, to be developed for TV by Dan Cerone (“The Blacklist”); “Flutter” based on Jennie Wood’s acclaimed LGBTQ comic, being adapted by Katherine Lindberg and Marc Rosen (“Sense8”); “Tanis,” based on the hit podcast, to be developed by Lee Shipman (“The Son”) and Terry Miles, creator of the podcast, and produced by Sam Raimi (“Evil Dead”) and Debbie Liebling (“South Park”) through their company POD 3; and “The Bright Sessions” being adapted for television by Gabrielle G.
