Cryptozoic Entertainment (cryptozoic.com), leading creator of board games, trading cards, and collectibles, and Sony Pictures Consumer Products are proud to announce today’s launch of the Kickstarter campaign for Ghostbusters: The Board Game II.

This new campaign, on Kickstarter today, is crafted with fans in mind and includes the following contents in the base game: 54 Miniatures including 4 Courtroom Ghostbusters, 4 Slime Blower Ghostbusters, The Scoleri Brothers, and Vigo the Carpathian plus 12 double-sided map tiles, custom dice and tokens; some of which can be used for advanced gameplay variants. Two expansions starring Louis Tully and Slimer as playable characters are also available for backers starting today.

Ghostbusters: The Board Game II features an original story by IDW Comics’ Ghostbusters writer Erik Burnham in which Vigo and his minions return to the city, causing rioting and earthquakes to break out all over The Big Apple! Comic book artist Dan Schoening also returns with his signature Ghostbusters style. Ghostbusters: The Board Game II’s cooperative gameplay and modular design allow for highly customizable scenarios and nearly endless re-playability. This stand-alone expansion lets players hop in the Ecto-1a for a quick half hour session, or strap on their Proton Packs for a full-fledged ghostbusting campaign, making it the perfect game for board game veterans and beginners alike.
Ghostbusters: The Board Game II builds off the successful original and introduces new miniatures, campaigns, powers, events, entities, gear… and GHOSTS.

Vigo the Carpathian has risen and is ransacking Manhattan, and it’s up to the Ghostbusters to harness new gear like Slime Blowers to take down Vigo and powerful Plazm poltergeists.

A standalone expansion, the game can be played on its own or mixed and matched with the original board game which raised over $1.5M on Kickstarter.

Ghostbusters: The Board Game II is more than just fan-service, providing a co-operative experience for players of all ages and abilities.

With authentic art from Ghostbusters comic book artist Dan Schoening and a script by Erik Burnham, the game is filled with references, in-jokes and Easter eggs that fans will love.

Ghostbusters: The Board Game II is a flexible action-strategy game with unpredictable adversaries and a wide range of abilities.

Modular design and new cards featuring equipment and events keeps the experience fresh. 12 reversible tiles and campaigns that last from 20 minutes to multiple hours let 1-4 players bust ghosts however they like.

The game is scalable, allowing you to level-up your characters during play and approach challenges based on your team’s unique strengths. The difficulty can ramp up with optional snap-on bases that add challenging new rules, for expert players.

In-depth Gameplay Information

  • Ghostbusters are now experienced enough in Paranormal Investigations that they start with 3 Actions and 2 Maneuvers from the beginning.
  • New Combat Mechanics
    • Slime Blower Packs: Use Psychomagnotheric slime to combat Plazms and possessed humans.
      • A Ghostbuster can Switch Out the Pack of an adjacent Ghostbuster the same way they can remove a Slime from them. Switching out one’s own Pack requires the forfeiting of all Actions just like removing a Slime from oneself.
    • Resist mechanic allows stronger Ghosts to fight against being Trapped.
  • New Entity Types
    • Plazms are mounds of negatively-charged Mood Slime taken control of by groups of tiny Ghosts, and must be combatted with positively charged Mood Slime from the Ghostbusters’ Slime Blower packs.
    • Haunted Humans are Ghosts that have taken the body of a human and warped it to suit their needs. They can be combatted with either Proton Streams or Mood Slimes – sometime you will need both to defeat them!
  • The Ecto-Tank
    • Deposit Extracted Plazms into the Ecto-1a’s Ecto-Tank and use the positively-charged Mood Slime you get from them to give your team advantages.
      • Abilities from the Ecto-Tank are unlocked by leveling up. Each Ghostbuster has one Ecto-Tank ability that can be unlocked for use by their whole team.
  • Special Bases
    • Entities can be modified into special modes using colored bases that snap onto their figures. Make Ghosts all move together with Hive, make them volatile and dangerous with Caustic, have Ghosts hone in on you with Shadow, and give them a burst of strength with Amplified bases.
  • New Types of Slime
    • In addition to the familiar -1 Action Slimes, new types of Slime affect Ghostbusters in different ways. -1 Hit Slimes reduce your Combat Rolls by 1, -1 LoS Slimes reduce your Line of Sight by 1 space, -1 Move Slimes reduce the number of spaces you can move by 1, and -1 Maneuver Slimes reduce your available Maneuvers by 1.
    • The most dangerous Slime is Caustic Slime, given to Ghostbusters only by Ghosts with the Caustic ability and cannot be removed. If any Ghostbuster has 3 Caustic Slimes, their team loses the scenario.
  • Goo Piles
    • Scattered on the Maps will be piles of goo with things to discover inside. You can find Equipment and Key Items or trigger Events by Investigating a Goo Pile.
  • Equipment Cards
    • Obtain pieces of Ghostbusters Equipment to use in the fight against the paranormal, ranging from Super Traps and Ecto-Goggles to Proton Bazookas and magical Tomes
    • Level up to unlock your character’s special Class S equipment and really let the sparks fly.
  • Events
    • Triggered occurrences that come from Investigating Goo Piles, these mini-quests offer rewards for completing them in certain amounts of time and danger if they are not.
  • Key Items
    • Sometimes you just need an Ecto-Matrix Negator or access to the Occult Reference Net in order to complete a Scenario. You will find these key items in Goo Piles on the Map.

Designers

Mataio Wilson: Created the first Ghostbusters board game and is thrilled to be heading up the second. His design style is informed by his love of being a Dungeon Master for D&D. He enjoys spending time with his family at Disneyland, and playing Nintendo.

Matt Hyra: has been the lead Board Game Designer at Cryptozoic since its inception. He has designed a wide variety of games including Adventure Time: Card Wars, Hot Rod Creeps, Walking Dead: Best Defense, Food Fight, and most of the Cerberus Engine Deck-building Games. He resides in Irvine, California.

Drew Walker and Vincent Pritchard are assisting in the creation of Ghostbusters: The Board Game II. Drew’s credits include working on Hex: The Shard of Fate and the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game. Vincent was a tester for the original board game.
