Bedtime Stories: The Bird "Grip"
Written by emiller on April 26, 2010 – 10:44 PM -
I love reading to my kids. I know some parents do not have the time to read to their children, or have problems reading. So I am offering bedtime stories, all for free.
This story is The Bird “Grip” from
THE PINK FAIRY BOOK Edited by Andrew Lang
This is a story of a king, his three sons, a bird, and a fox. The king goes blind and needs the bird to get his sight back. The sons set out, one at a time, to get the bird. The first two are jerks and screw up, the third has a bunch of adventures, and screws up a lot, but a fox helps him and in the end he gets the bird and lives happily ever after.
This fairy tale is Rated PG. There is a psychotic innkeeper who likes to murder people, and the brothers attempt to murder the youngest son, plus there is a lot of stealing. But the good guys win!

Episode #170: The Dice Tower
Written by emiller on April 26, 2010 – 7:20 PM -Top 10 Replacement Games
In this show, we take some time talking about the top ten games that have replaced other games in our collections. Dexter and the Chief talk about Take it Easy, Brad goes over Age of Steam, Tom reviews 10 games in 9 minutes (or something like that), and Moritz talks about the evolution of Lord of the Rings. We review Wits and Wagers: Family, do Conventional wisdom, and talk about some recently played games – including our never ending online game of Stone Age.
The Dice Tower is a podcast about BoardGames. Not your Monopoly and Checkers fare, but REAL boardgames. There are boardgames with real strategy, that are actually fun to play. The Dice Tower is the most listened to boardgame podcast in the world.
I do the interior segment pieces on the show. Eric Summerer does the show intro/outtro and is the co-host. He is a very talented voice artist himself, you can download some of the audiobooks he has narrated at Audible.com.
Tom Vasel is the show’s host. I have never encountered a more knowledgeable person concerning boardgames.
Give the show a listen, you might find a whole new hobby to explore!

Audiobook: The Silent Bullet – Ch 1 The Silent Bullet
Written by emiller on April 21, 2010 – 11:16 PM -It’s an all new audiobook. The Silent Bullet, by Arthur B. Reeve.
Follow the adventures of Professor Craig Kennedy and his assistant Walter Jameson as they track down criminals scientifically.
From Wikipedia:
Arthur Benjamin Reeve (October 15, 1880 – August 9, 1936) was an American mystery writer. He is best known for creating the series character Professor Craig Kennedy, sometimes called “The American Sherlock Holmes,” and his Dr Watson-like sidekick Walter Jameson, a newspaper reporter, in eighteen detective novels. The bulk of Reeve’s fame is based on the 82 Craig Kennedy stories, published in Cosmopolitan magazine between 1910 and 1918. These were collected in book form; with the third collection, the short stories were stitched together into pseudo-novels. The 12-volume Craig Kennedy Stories came out in 1918; it reissued Reeve’s books-to-date as a matched set.
The first story takes its title from the book, it is called The Silent Bullet

Written by emiller on April 12, 2010 – 6:16 AM -
I love reading to my kids. I know some parents do not have the time to read to their children, or have problems reading. So I am offering bedtime stories, all for free.
This story is Peter Bull from
THE PINK FAIRY BOOK Edited by Andrew Lang
This is a story of an old farming couple who don’t have any children but do have money. They decide to adopt a beautiful calf as their son and pay a clerk to teach it to speak. Well, he takes their money, kills the calf, and tells them it ran off. They are sad. He hears of a man named Peter Bull in another town, tells them that this is the calf, and they go see him. Peter Bull decides that he likes them as parents and they all live happily ever after, except the calf.
This fairy tale is Rated PG. The clerk kills the calf and gets to keep the money! Geeze! At least it all turns out well for the nice but dumb couple.
